Bangladesh’s Junaid Ahmad new World Bank head in India

  • Junaid Ahmad has become the World Bank’s Country Director for India, replacing Onno Ruhl who served a four-year term based out of the national capital. Ahmad joined the World Bank in 1991 as a young professional.

Facebook appoints Anand Chandrasekaran for its Messenger app

  • Facebook has roped in former chief product officer at Snapdeal, Anand Chandrasekaran, for a strategic role for its Messenger app. In a global role, Chandrasekaran will be working out of the Silicon Valley headquarters of the company and will help develop strategies and partnerships for the platform that already boasts of a billion users globally.
  • Facebook is a for-profit corporation and online social media and social networking service based in Menlo Park, California, United States.

Government approves 9 highway projects worth Rs 2,600 cr

  • The central government has approved 9 highway projects at a cost of Rs 2,600.31 crore. The projects, cleared by the Standing Finance Committee (SFC), includes Rehabilitation and Up-gradation of Allahabad-Mirzapur section (Km 400.878 to Km 450) of NH-76 in Uttar Pradesh to two-lane at the total project cost of Rs 241.37 crores.

Jubilant FoodWorks CEO Ajay Kaul resigns

  • Ajay Kaul has resigned as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jubilant FoodWorks Limited. Kaul, an IIT as weel as XLRI alumnus, joined Jubilant Foodworks in 2005. He will continue in his current role till March 2017, the company informed in its filing.

Param-Ishan supercomputer unveiled at IIT Guwahati

  • HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has unveiled the ‘Param-Ishan’ supercomputer at IIT Guwahati. The high-performance “Param-Ishan” has the computing speed of 250 teraFLOPS and capacity of 300 tera bites (TB). The 250 teraFLOPS means that computer is capable of performing 250 trillion operations per second.

Deaf shooter Priyesha Deshmukh wins bronze in World Championship

  • Deaf Indian shooter Priyesha Deshmukh has won the bronze medal in her first-ever international competition at the first World Deaf Shooting Championships held in Kazan, Russia.

Govt announces 27 more cities in second round: Smart cities

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi had finally bagged the coveted smart city tag as the Government announced 27 more cities under the flagship smart cities mission. The holy city has ranked 23rd among 27 cities.

New ED for Syndicate Bank

  • SS Mallikarjuna Rao has taken charge as executive director of Syndicate Bank. Prior to joining the bank, Rao wasGeneral Manager and CFO of Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC), looking after alternate delivery channels,marketing and publicity.

India successfully test-fires surface-to-air missile

  • India has successfully test-fired its new, long range surface-to-air missile jointly developed with Israel from a defence base off Odisha coast. The missile was launched from a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur.
